LEVELS OF Certification

Facilitator Levels (Parenting Class and Classroom Facilitator)

A Certified Positive Discipline Facilitator has successfully completed one of the following intensive training programs  Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline WayPositive Discipline in the Classroom or Positive Discipline for Early Childhood Educators

Certified Positive Discipline Parenting Class Facilitators

  • Have completed the Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way Program
  • Certified to lead parenting classes using tools and techniques from the Positive Discipline Parenting Program
  • May provide short seminars or introductory presentations on Positive Discipline parenting principles

Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Facilitators

  • Have completed the Positive Discipline in the Classroom Program
  • Certified to utilize Positive Discipline in the Classroom experiential activities for students
  • Certified to implement class meetings which have been demonstrated to benefit social emotional learning
  • May facilitate Teachers Helping Teachers Problem Solving Steps with colleagues
  • May share the concepts of Positive Discipline in the Classroom with other faculty

Trainer Levels

Positive Discipline Trainer Candidate 

Positive Discipline Trainer Candidates are working toward becoming Positive Discipline Trainers.   Facilitators can apply to become Trainer Candidates once they have gained appropriate facilitator experience.  Once approved Trainer Candidates will gain experience and submit documentation to prepare the the Advance Trainer Candidate application. 
Trainer Candidates continue the same level of work as facilitators.  
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Parenting Class Facilitators have completed the Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way Program
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Parenting Class Facilitators are certified to lead parenting classes using tools and techniques from the Positive Discipline Parenting Program
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Parenting Class Facilitators may provide short seminars or introductory presentations on Positive Discipline parenting principles
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Classroom Facilitators have completed the Positive Discipline in the Classroom Program
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Classroom Facilitators are certified to utilize Positive Discipline in the Classroom experiential activities for students
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Classroom Facilitators are certified to implement class meetings which have been demonstrated to benefit social emotional learning
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Classroom Facilitators may facilitate Teachers Helping Teachers Problem Solving Steps with colleagues
  • Trainer Candidates who are Certified Classroom Facilitators may share the concepts of Positive Discipline in the Classroom with other faculty

Certified Positive Discipline Trainer (CPDT)

Certified Positive Discipline Trainers are endorsed by the Positive Discipline Association as a "Trainer of Trainers."   The trainers have participated in an advanced training process to strengthen their skills and understanding of Adlerian principles and Positive Discipline facilitation.   These individuals are recognized for attaining a high level of understanding and competency in utilizing the Positive Discipline model.
  • They are qualified to facilitate the two-day Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way workshop, and/or the two-day Positive Discipline in the Classroom workshop.
  • Agencies and schools are encouraged to contract with a CPDT when they are looking to developing a campus- or organization-wide commitment to Positive Discipline model, where they want the depth and scope of understanding consistent with this level of certification, and where they want the program adapted for specific populations or settings.
  • Certified Positive Discipline Trainers have a high level of expertise in offering parent classes, teacher training, and school or organizational consultations or training based on Positive Discipline principles.
  • Typically, CPDTs who are therapists or coaches strongly integrate PD within the framework of their practice.
