    Title: Positive Discipline in the Classroom

    Facilitator Information: 
    Steven Foster is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, parent educator since 2001, co-author of Positive Discipline For Children With Special Needs, and a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer.

    Julia Tomes is a former elementary and middle school teacher, parent educator since 2008, and a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer.

    Workshop Descriptions: 
    This interactive workshop is designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to: 

    1. Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches. 
    2. Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures. 
    3. Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect. 
    4. Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change. 
    5. Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving. 
    6. Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community. 
    7. Gain information on how to address the effects of childhood trauma and insecure attachment. 
    8. Learn how to teach the Eight Essential Skills for effective class meetings to students.

    9. Learn to promote a classroom culture of belonging and significance.

    10. Explore motivations for behavior and learn respectful, encouraging ways to be kind and firm at the same time when faced with challenging behaviors in classrooms and group settings.

    11. Become familiar with research-based and trauma-informed tools to effectively lead a classroom or mediate a conflict based upon cooperation, problem-solving, and mutual respect. 

    12. Learn how to empower students to look for solutions and do the right thing even when no one is looking. 

    13. Learn the Teacher Helping Teacher Problem Solving Steps, an effective tool for ongoing training and support for both teachers and support staff.

    Cost: $375 early registration, available until January 19, 2017. $425 regular registration.

    Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop. 

    In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
