Facilitator Information: 
As a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, Kristin combines a career of teaching and serving with her passion for creating mutually respectful environments for families, children, classrooms and schools. 

In her collaboration with teachers, administrations and families, this Sandy Hook, CT native's goal is to help facilitate opportunities for adults and students to become compassionate leaders, with the hope that doing so will help build more peaceful community in Chicago and the world. 

Kristin founded SEL Chicago to provide coaching, courses and training to support relationships that build connection and bring the work of Positive Discipline to Chicago. Clients include Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Park District, Illinois State University, Columbia College, Youth Guidance and private institutions and families.

Workshop Description: 
Normally a 2 day workshop, this PDC is provided over 6 sessions. The multi-session delivery allows for classroom experience and encouragement over time. We will also be looking at supports from Positive Discipline for Teenagers and adolescent development to support Middle School educators. This interactive workshop is designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to: 

  1. Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches. 
  2. Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures. 
  3. Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect. 
  4. Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change. 
  5. Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving. 
  6. Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community. 

Cost: $375 early registration, available until February 25, 2018. $425 regular registration. $375/participant if four (4) or more registering from the same organization. City of Chicago Agency (including CPS) $325. Limit 20. Our host, River Valley Farmer's Table, is generously providing space for us and has created a special educator menu for preorder. Meals will be available for $12-15.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop. 

In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
