Tammy Keces, EdD is the Head of School at Irvine Hebrew Day School, a K-8 accredited Positive Discipline Lab school.
Tammy holds a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, and an M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University in Curriculum and Instruction. Tammy received her doctorate in education from California State University, Fullerton, and wrote her dissertation on "Teachers Perceptions of Social Emotional Competencies and Social Emotional Learning Practices". Tammy also holds a multiple-subject teaching credential and has taught in various K-8 private and public schools. Tammy received her Administrative Services Credential from Cal State University Fullerton and has been an educational consultant for public, charter, Montessori, and private schools. Tammy has provided professional development training for school administrators, school counselors, teachers, and staff. As a certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer candidate Tammy is deeply committed to supporting the efforts of the PDA to empower educators in developing their social emotional competencies to help create belonging and significance into the lives of students and teachers.
Tammy's curriculum is featured in "Positive Discipline in the School and Classroom" (4th edition) by Jane Nelsen and the "Problem Solving Wheel of Choice Program" also by Nelsen. Tammy was honored to write the forward to "Positive Discipline Tools for Teachers". Tammy has presented Positive Discipline at the California Gifted and Talented Education conference, the California Charter School Association, the Orange County Private School Association, the New Mom School, Mom's of Multiples Group, Stowell Learning Center, the Jewish Community Center, and schools throughout the country. Tammy enjoys spending her free time with her family harvesting vegetables in her organic garden, cooking new recipes, playing tennis or scrabble, kayaking or playing with her dog. Tammy has been married to her husband Matthew for 27 years and they have raised three children Maya (25), Natasha (22) and Colby (19) with Positive Discipline.
Workshop Description: This two-day interactive workshop is designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to:
- Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches.
- Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures.
- Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect.
- Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change.
- Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving.
- Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community.

The Positive Discipline Association is pleased to provide the opportunity for educators to earn graduate-level university credit. Whether you attend one of our live workshops or participate in an online workshop, you may choose to earn 1 to 4 non-degree credits. Positive Discipline Association courses approved for Graduate-Level Semester Credits through University of the Pacific will appear on an Official Transcript with a letter grade.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop.
In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
