Schools are unique and have many moving parts that affect their individual climate and culture. If you are new to Positive Discipline whole-school work, there may be many additional lenses that you need to develop to be effective. Deeply implementing Positive Discipline in a school can be a big undertaking. 

Positive Discipline in the Classroom Certification focuses on implementing Positive Discipline with students. This two-part experiential training is designed for Positive Discipline Certified Classroom Educators and Trainers who want to better understand the intricacies of the school systems and cultures to widen their perspectives and knowledge to begin doing Positive Discipline whole-school work.

Participants will learn:

  • To identify factors that contribute to school culture and climate.
  • To identify stakeholders and decision-makers within a school or system.
  • How to affect changes from the outside in and the inside out.
  • How to find common themes that align with Adlerian concepts.
  • To develop the cultural humility to respectfully work with schools.
  • To develop a long-term timeline for implementation and sustainability.
  • How to develop a continuous improvement cycle by doing regular goal setting and assessment with the leadership team.

Intended audience: 

Positive Discipline Educators and Trainers who would like to improve their knowledge and abilities to work with schools / professionals currently working in PDA Lab Schools.

Cathy Kawakami is a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer from San Jose, CA. She offers Positive Discipline training for parents, educators, and others who are looking for an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging behaviors. Cathy has been working with schools and families for over 15 years and specializes in parent participation and cooperative school programs. She has additional training in early childhood education and is passionate about sharing Positive Discipline with others and improving relationships for all. Cathy has served on the Positive Discipline Association’s Board of Directors and regularly leads the PDA Lab School meetings. She works with local non-profit organizations to share the work of Positive Discipline near and far.
