Facilitator Information:
Teresa LaSala is a Positive Discipline Lead Trainer and co-author of the Positive Discipline in the School and Classroom manual used in this certification course. For over 20 years, she has led high-impact trainings for educators, counselors, and school leaders, equipping them with evidence-based tools to improve student behavior, foster respectful relationships, and build inclusive, emotionally safe school communities. Her sessions are interactive, practical, and grounded in the Adlerian principles at the heart of Positive Discipline.
Teresa's work extends nationally and internationally, with participants from across the globe attending her workshops. She provides consultation, coaching, and long-term support to schools, families, agencies, and community organizations seeking to embed social-emotional learning and restorative practices into everyday practice.
She currently serves as a School Culture and Climate Specialist with the School Culture and Climate Initiative at Saint Elizabeth University's Center for Human and Social Development and as a Whole Child Faculty Member and Regional Specialist with ASCD, an international educational leadership organization.
With a background as a licensed nurse specializing in family and pediatric care and over two decades of experience in child development, Teresa brings a uniquely holistic and compassionate lens to her work. A passionate child advocate, she is deeply committed to modeling and living the Adlerian philosophy in both her professional and personal life.
Kathleen McClay is a Positive Discipline Trainer and co-founder of Positive Discipline New Jersey. Since 2010, she has facilitated dynamic and engaging workshops for educators, counselors, and parents, equipping adults with research-based tools to foster respectful relationships, strengthen classroom communities, and support students' social and emotional development.
With many years of experience as a preschool director and teacher, along with a degree in special education, Kathleen brings both practical insight and deep understanding to her work. She is passionate about helping children become capable, confident, and contributing members of their classrooms—starting in early childhood and extending far beyond.
Kathleen serves as a School Culture and Climate Specialist with the School Culture and Climate Initiative, based at the Center for Human and Social Development at Saint Elizabeth University, and is a member of the United Way Success By 6 Social Emotional Learning Team. In these roles, she collaborates with schools and districts to cultivate safe, inclusive, and engaging climates that support the success and well-being of all students.
Rooted in Adlerian theory and the Positive Discipline approach, Kathleen's trainings are interactive, practical, and deeply respectful of the challenges educators face today. She has worked with school communities across the U.S. and internationally and is honored to support the growing movement to integrate social-emotional learning and relationship-based practices into everyday school life.
Workshop Description:
This is an online interactive and streamed video workshop designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to:
- Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches.
- Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures.
- Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect.
- Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change.
- Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving.
- Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop. Refunds are not available for cancellations less than 30 days before a workshop. However, paid registrants can transfer to another workshop within one year at no additional cost. Refunds are not available after a transfer is made or if you do not provide advanced notice that you will not be attending the workshop.
In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified by email.
