Session Title: Parenting a Neurodivergent Child Through the Eyes of Adler
Session Description
This session explores Adlerian principles through a neuro-affirming lens, offering practitioners, educators, and families a fresh framework for understanding and supporting neurodivergent children. Drawing on Adler's core concepts (social interest, encouragement, belonging, and the inferiority-superiority dynamic), participants will examine how traditional parenting approaches can inadvertently fuel discouragement in neurodivergent children, and how an Adlerian perspective reframes neurodivergence as difference rather than deficit. Attendees will leave with practical, strengths-based strategies rooted in Individual Psychology that honor each child's unique lifestyle and support their sense of contribution and community.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- apply Adlerian concepts of social interest and encouragement to reframe neurodivergent behaviors through a strengths-based, affirming lens.
- identify at least two practical strategies rooted in Individual Psychology to support belonging and contribution in neurodivergent children within the family system.
